Safer summer roads

SPANISH roads were safer this summer according to the road accidents report released on Monday, which shows that the number of fatalities over the holiday period is the lowest since 1964.

Figures released by the DGT traffic department show that 450 people lost their lives in traffic accidents from July 1 until midnight on Sunday, August 31.
The figure is 89 down on summer 2007 and is the lowest in 44 years, furthermore, in 1964 there were only two million vehicles on the roads (30 million today) and four million drivers (25 million this year).
